Team Fortress 2 goes Free to Play
Valve has officially made Team Fortress 2 Free-to-Play in conjunction with the Uber pack update and the new Meet-The-Medic video.
For those of us who already shelled out cash for the game, not to worry, Valve has a tier system in-place (ergo you have a Premium account and a Free account. Users who have bought the game or have bought anything from the Mann Co store will automatically get a Premium account, otherwise you’re designated to the Free account. The differences between both accounts are outlined below:
Free | Premium | |
---|---|---|
Backpack: | 50 slots | 300 slots (expandable up to 1000) |
Items: | Standard | Standard, Rare and Cosmetic |
Crafting: | Limited blueprints | All blueprints |
Trading: | Receive items only | Full trading |
Gifting: | Can receive gifts | Can give and receive gifts |
On an interesting note, Team Fortress 2 is already 4 years old and it is still receiving updates in the form of bugfixes, patches, item updates etc. The downside for those who love the vanilla version is the presence of all those non-standard items but if you look hard enough, there are several vanilla servers online.
Team Fortress 2 is available for Free via Steam on the PC and Mac (no Linux yet :().
Oh and here’s the Meet the Medic video:
PS: yes I’m late on posting this (1 day late or more) because I ended up playing the game again. Starhub (now e-club)’s TF2 servers are back online! 🙂
