Install PSP Custom Firmware 5.50 GEN-C

PSPGen and GENyUS has just released 5.50 GEN-C. If you’re thinking *yawn*, not another incremental update then you’re sadly mistaken as 5.50 GEN-C will let you play 5.55 and 6.00 games straight from the ISO :D. Sounds like quite a deal doesn’t it?
No more decrypting, no more patching and no more rebuilding. Well that is the only case IF you have a HACKABLE PSP (Is my PSP hackable?). For PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA088v3, it’s still the Game Decrypter method for you.
Important: GEN-C is still buggy and is causing a lot of problems. I recommend installing 5.50 GEN-D3 instead.
Important: DO NOT attempt to install this on PSP-3000 / PSP-2000 TA088v3. YOU WILL BRICK YOUR PSP IF YOU DO.
Requirements:
- Any PSP with custom firmware installed 3.71 M33 or above. 5.00 M33-6 is the best bet for the XGEN Updater to work.
- PSP battery that’s at least 78% full
- Download: XGen Updater
- Disable ALL plugins.
- Back up your save files (so that if they get corrupted, you still have backups)
How to install 5.50 GEN-C using XGen Updater
- Connect your PSP to your computer
- Extract the XGen Updater to your PC
- Copy the PSP folder and the 550.pbp file to the root of your memory stick
- On your XMB, go to Game > Memory Stick to start XGen Updater
- Select Flash install CFW 5.50 GEN-C
- After all process is complete, press X. Your PSP will reboot.
- Congratulations, you’ve just installed 5.50 GEN-C

First we present our apologies for this release that posed more problems than we expected. To be very frank, in our tests made in the same manner as other times, we had satisfactory results, but several factors intervened between the announcement of the online one. We will try to explain the why of how this release cursed.
Firstly, the original version that was being posted was well prepared for this announcement and we had given 24 hours of additional testing to verify that everything worked well. This first release does not launch the protected games but all games 5.55 +. In the process, Yoshihiro out how to counter the protections we have decided to announce and release in the edit function. So this is where we fished for if everything worked in our tests, it is found that certain protections of our CFW have come to panic under certain conditions and also depending on the model of PSP. Moreover, to avoid (too much) delay the release, we dropped the baby without giving her a test period of time. Accept our apologies for this.
In our defense, there are several types of errors, some of which we are not attributable to:
* You have a black screen by launching the updater
You are in Custom Firmware 5.50GEN-B and not in B2. It was enough to qse B2 therefore to resolve the concern.
* You have a semi brick ( “I have the clock …”)
You had left a personalized theme and therefore it was enough to format the flash1 via Recovery menu. Do not have a personal theme during a flash console is part of b and ba and we had forgot to report it. Nothing serious, however, because the Recovery remained accessible and / or restart without his MS usually enough to break the deadlock.
* You bricked your console
The installer of 5.50GEN has no CFW our bug and can not be directly responsible for that. i tried to update my firmware from 5.00 M33-6 to 5.50 GenC. however, when it was time for it to update after selecting Flash install CFW 5.50 GEN-C this error came out:
ms0:/550.PBP no found on foot of your ms
pls. help. i have a psp-2000 hacked psp with 5.00 M33-6 firmware. thanks
figured it out…need to copy 550.PBP from XGEN to ms root…
heeeeelp, i pun on my psp 2004 5.50 gen-c, the software was installed, all fine, but whn i power on my psp, it appears the sony logo, but the menu doesn-t appear, and it restarts. What can i do?
Odd thing happended to me. When I start XGEN updater only what I get is black screen.
Nothing happends, can’t back to XMB but can turn off PSP and start it again.
Any tips ? I have Phat PSP

I just found that out for myself, my PSP semibricked after installation. I reflashed back to 5.00 M33-6.

i tried to update from 5.50 GEN-B2 TO 5.50 GEN-C, but when the psp restarted, it only shows the background before it shutsdown…
and everytime i turn my psp on, the same thing happens…what seems to be the problem? please HELP!!!
Reflash back to a lower firmware (5.50 GEN-B2 or even 5.00 M33-6). GEN-C is still buggy 🙁

You need a Pandora battery to reflash.
the software is ok!!!!! after the install yu need to go in bios and reset the flash!! the psp ir runing after that normaly and the games work 😉

For most ppl this FW is headache and you have just been lucky that everything is work ok.
Wait… so you got it working properly?
yes, it needs to install and after that, go in biod and reset flash or something of that ( it is there). After thar is works, and all games are working( but thut is my case, i don`t now if it will work n your psp)
anyway if tou know to reflash the psp you can try my sugestion 😉 and one question for me.. how do I reflash my psp if i need it?
If your PSP is working properly with CFW you can use tools like the XGEN Updater or the Hellcat’s recovery tool.
If your PSP is semi-bricked, just pop an EBOOT.PBP of the firmware you want to reflash in PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/ and boot with the pandora battery.

i just found out that if after the installation psp starts but the XMB doesn’t appear and then shuts down, all you have to do is go to the RECOVERY menu, go to ADVANCED, and select the option that says FORMAT FLASH1 AND RESET SETTINGS…
everything will be back to normal, and you’re SYSTEM INFORMATION will say 5.50 GEN-C
GEN-C is very buggy…i recommend waiting for 5.50 GEN-D

So i tried this so i could play SC4, no luck, for some reason when loading the battle where it shows the 2 characters it loads for a few seconds then completely freezes and shuts off. Any Ideas??
There’s a hacked version of SC4.
I have tried both the hacked and unhacked, and even took the unhacked and did it myself. No Luck
shutdown ur psp then go to Recovery Mode (Hold R+switch on) go to advance menu then Reformat Flash Memory.
I had to do that when I upgraded anyhow cause I had a custom theme and it didn’t let the game run right after.
Hmm that’s odd. Have you tried switching ISO mode?
Or, in the case for semi-bricked PSP, instead of doing all that, just go do Recovery Menu -> Advanced -> Format Flash1 and Settings.
That’s what thinkpad tried to say. No one may have every PSP in the world, but the code for the firmware is only one, and shouldn’t have problems with any supported PSP.
Just tried it and it works, now I jsut need to reconfigure the settings and Wallpaper
Looks like formatting the flash is really the solution for most semi bricks. I’ll add it up to the disclaimer.
Hey, when you’re updating to GEN-D from B2, do you have to update to C then D? or can i just go straight to D from B2?
you can jump from B2 to D. You can ignore GEN-C.

on the root of your memory stick (i.e. if your memory stick is read as E: copy it so that the path of the file is E:550.pbp)
it very misleading when they say root you think MP root but really it just the main area of memory stick IE if you click on drive before you enter any folders that is were you leave 550.php not in any folders
That’s actually the correct term when you’re referring to the just the drive letter. If your computer detects your PSP as drive E: then the root folder is driver E:.

I have a psp 3000 slim with chickhen install on my memory stick it also have 5.03 updater and currently runnning on GEN-C. my question is that how do i update it with 5.50 and i want to know the process, can u help me with this?
