EAs Crysis (not Farcry 2)

Crysis Logo ThumbnailIf you’re still living under a digital rock and haven’t seen what’s hot in the gaming world, Crysis is an upcoming science fiction First Person Shooter, that is being developed by Crytek. The story is as follows:

Set in 2019, Crysis’ plot follows Jake Dunn, a United States Delta Force operative, whose codename is “Nomad”. As Crysis begins, an American team of archaeologists is taken captive by the North Korean Army, just as they were making an important discovery in the South China Sea. The United States responds by deploying a team of Delta Force operatives, supported by the USS Ashcroft. Jake Dunn, one of the Delta Force operatives sent by the American government, takes part in the fighting between the United States, and the then superpower North Korea. Soon, though, it becomes apparent that the presumed asteroid on the island is actually an alien vessel.

While EA’s countdown timer still has to reach 00. There’s already a few sites that provide it for download.

If you encounter errors with the demo, check the list below before deleting/uninstalling the game:

Problem 1: Low FPS when running Crysis Demo in Directx 10 mode

Solution : Download latest version of Direct X’s Redlist. DL here (solution posted by – marauderxp )

Problem 2 : Crysis hangs up / freezes when i try start in dirext10, and i have downloaded that file and latest beta drivers from nvidia

Solution : go into your Crysis folder \Bin32\ folder and launch Crysis from there. It’ll run in 32-Bit, that doesn’t freeze. The problem is caused by the new drivers + 64-Bit (Vista?) (solution posted by Reyde)

Problem 3 : Crysis wont run on my Vista 64-bit machine with an Nvidia graphics card

  • Solution 1 : Use the 32-bit Nvidia drivers.
  • Solution 2 : Do not use the latest Nvidia drivers.
  • Solution 3 : Download this small Vista 64 fix from microsoft. Link
  • Solution 4 : Play Crysis in Directx9 mode
  • Solution 5 : Download the Nvidia drivers that were made specially for Crysis demo.

Vista Drivers: 32 bit (169.01) | 64 bit (169.01)

XP Drivers: 32 bit (169.01) | 64 bit (169.01)

Note : some users got Crysis working on a Vista 64-bit with Nvidia 163.75 beta drivers.

Problem 4: Crysis shows up a Black Screen After the Frozen ship scene

Reason : End of the Crysis demo.

“if you got to the editor and time everything perfectly you get to see a little bit of what happens next I think you chase the Alien then after that it tells you that you can’t go any further or you will be killed stuff!” – Stickman

Problem 5 : Crysis Sandbox Installation Error “Error 1303 : The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory…”

Solution 1 : Run it with Administrator privileges

For Vista users :

In order to install and use the Crysis(R) Sandbox Editor on Windows
Vista(TM) it is necessary to disable User Account Control (UAC). To
disable UAC, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Start \ Control Panel \ User Accounts
  2. Click the “Turn user account control on or off” option
  3. Click continue on the UAC popup
  4. Uncheck the box next to “Use user account control (UAC) to help protect my computer”
  5. Click OK

Problem 6: Sandbox Ctrl + G console error when creating terrain

Note 1: “It is a known bug, Cry-Alex addressed it on Crymod… not sure if there coming out with a fix” – xfinchx

Note 2 : “OK did a little digging around that website Crymod… found that if i save, exit and reopen the editor, ctrl + G works, but my ground still has no texture.” – Crab

Problem 7: Demo shader issues:

The issue I’m having is that there are absolutely no shadows for me in the game. I can turn the rest of the graphics to whatever I like, but “Shader Quality” and “Water Quality” keep going to “Custom” everytime I change them. I’ve tried setting everything else on Low, Medium, and High, but those 2 options keep going to “Custom” and it won’t display any shadows. The water looks like it’s probably going to the “Low” setting when it says “Custom”.

Solution: Go to your Crysis Sp Demo folder > Game > Config > CVarGroups and open sys_spec_Shadows. Under [1] change e_shadows, r_ShadowBlur, e_shadows_on_alpha_blended and e_shadows_from_terrain_in_all_lods to 1 instead of 0. Save and restart your computer.

Update:

EA and Crytek has good news to all Crysis fans. They have sent word that Crysis is all finished up and is now at manufacturing. Both the standard ($49.99) and collector’s edition ($59.99) will hit store shelves on November 16th.

Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek: “We are extremely proud of what we have been able to accomplish with Crysis. We wanted to push the boundaries both visually and with open-ended, non-linear gameplay and we believe the end result delivers that vision.”

Oh and console gamers, keep your fingers crossed that Crysis gets praised by both the critics and the public, and Crytek just might bring the game to the 360 and PS3.
